Vinayaka Chaviti Puja
Vinayaka chaviti is a hindu festival which falls on Sukla chaturthi in Bhadrapada masam. The procedure of worship was prescribed in Mudgala puranam. The nature of Ganapathi and the efficacy of performing the vratam on Bhadrapada sukla chaviti were narrated to Bharata by Sage Kanva.. The worship of clay Ganapati on the day conveys ‘Pancheekaranam’ which is the amalgamation of the Panchabhutams (five elements). The God created us with the five elements. What a wonderful system was introduced in preparing the Ganesha idol with clay involving the Five Elements ! The divine secret of worship of the consciousness of the nature is inherent in the Ganesha worship. The nine-night festivals of Ganapati are known as ‘Ganapatinavaratrams’.
Ganapatinavaratra vratam is performed for the best growth of crops, increase of intelligence along with character among children, development of education, health and prolonged life time. Ganapati worship removes stress. Control on anger and emotions will develop among devotees. The worship is ideal to get protection from fears and dangers. There will be relief from the wicked elements. Ganapati worship is symbolic of the nature of the sky. Tantric scriptures attach great importance to the worship of Ganapathi. His worship in the clay form offers control of senses, and fulfilment in all undertakings. All defects in the house will be removed and peace will flourish. The elders relate the story in which Parvati warns that ignoring this vratam will lead to blames althrough the year. Besides there will be hurdles to the undertakings. So, by all means, performance of the vratam gives many auspicious results.
