There is number 9 in the word Navaratri which are described as Nava Ahoratras according to scriptures that means nine day times and nine night times there is a special method for performing Devi puji worship of the divine mother on nine night times and nine day times from Shukla Paksha Padyami tithi in the month of Aswayuja. These are called Sarannavaratris or Devi navaratrulu.

Legend has it that the goddess appeared in nine forms and at last on the tenth day she slayed the demon Mahisha and became victorious. As a mark of this, the divine mother is decorated in nine forms in Sarannavaratris. On the first day, she appears as the Swarnakavacha Durgadevi. In some places Durga is worshiped as Shailaputri. Later she is worshiped in the forms of Bala Tripura sudari,Gayatri, Sarawathi, Annapurna, Mahalakshmi, Durga, Mahishasura Mardini and Rajarajeshwari. In certain areas the goddess is worshipped as Parvathi on the first three days, as Lakshmi on the next three days and as Saraswathy on the last three days there may be some changes in the forms of goddess according to tithi and star.
It is the strong belief of people that worship of goddess during navarathris, removes the sins of ten births. According to Vedas contemplation and worship of Parashakti who appears with the decorations of nava durgas offers success in all undertakings so it will be auspicious to celebrate dussehra navaratris from devotion.
Those who want to perform worships during navarathris must get ready with respective materials of the deities.
