Kshirabdi Dwadasi Vratham / Tulasi Kalyanam
Kshirabdi Dwadashi is the day after the holy Ekadasi which falls in the month of Kartik. This is a very special day. This is known as “Chiluka Dwadasi and Haribodhini Dwadasi also” On this particular day called Utthana Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu wakes up from his Yogic slumber of four months on the Serpent bed (Sesha sayya) in the Milk Ocean from Ashadha Suddha Ekadasi and focuses his first sight on the earth.
According to Epics, Tulasi married lord Vishnu on Utthana Dwadasi. So the branch of a Basil plant is decorated as a bride. Similarly the branch of an Amla tree which is considered as the personification of lord Vishnu is decorated as groom and wedded to Basil (Tulasi). The two plants must be worshipped treating them as Sri Lakshmi Narayana swamy associated with his consort Tulasi. In the same manner the efficacy of Kshirabdi Dwadasi is evident from the story of Ambarisha contained in Bhagavatam.
The lapse of skipping of lighting the traditional lamp at the basil plant on any day of the year will be removed by lighting a traditional lamp with 365 wicks on this day. By performing this divine marriage to Tulasi , many marital problems will be solved and the couples will be blessed with Good children.
Devotees strongly believe that the performance of Dwadasi vrata (Observance) will safeguard them by the Sudarshana chakra by the lord Hari. The devotees enjoy a comfortable life in this birth and attain the world of Lord Vishnu at the end of this Birth by His grace.
