Today’s temple round-up: Sri Ramakrishna Universal Temple, Chicago


Chicago January 19th, 2014:  “More are the names of God and infinite are the forms through which He may be approached. In whatever name and form you worship Him, through them you will realize Him... “– Ramakrishna Parahamsa. Ramakrishna Parahamsa, the great 19th century saint believes in such highest ideals on God and his worship. To propagate these beliefs in Chicago the Ramakrishna  Math & Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math has established a branch in Chicago – Sri Ramakrishna Universal Temple also known as Vivekananda Vedanta Society of Chicago.

Ramakrishna Math and Mission are twin organization which is formed to spread spiritual movement worldwide. The Math is an ascetic organization for men brought into existence by Sri Ramakrishna. It was founded by Sri Ramakrishna's chief apostle - Swami Vivekananda, one of the foremost thinkers and religious leaders of the present age.  

 

Swami Vivekananda envisioned "Temple Universal in America" in his letter to his disciple AlasingaPerumal. In 2003, it was decided to put into action Swami Vivekananda’s ideal. From 2003 to 2008, land purchasing, bhoomipooja and other works were completed and in 2008

The Universal Temple was inaugurated. The temple is situated on 15 acres in wooded areas surrounded by trees. Sanskrit Classes, Yoga classes, Spiritual lessons are conducted. There is also a Health clinic in the temple. Daily Aarti is conducted at 6:00 PM. Upanishad classes are conducted every Friday at 7:30 PM, Sri Ramakrishna Gospels are conducted every Tuesday at 7:30 PM and every Sunday Service is at 11:00 AM.
