Grand Kite Flying Festival at Houston

Kite festival was celebrated with grand fervor this year by more than 2000 persons of Indian origin at Bush Park,Houston on Sunday 12th January 2014.It is an yearly event organized by Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America.The Sun was its brightest after unprecedented cold during previous week.The sky was colorful and mind of people were cheerful as weather was extremely favorable.People started flocking the Park from 10 am and enjoyed till 5 pm.
There were more than 15 Sargent on duty to control the traffic. Parking lots of nearby two schools were packed. Three shuttle buses were inducted to bring people from parking lots.Gujarati Samaj served Khichdi with buttermilk and EkalVidyalaya served tea to all the visitors. This event was very successful and seen improvements every year due to hard work of volunteers, excellent planning and coordination. It has attracted the attention of media and it got coverage from ABC 13 news over and above the Indian media.
“Walk for Unity” to show Houston’s solidarity with the “Statue of Unity” movement in India as tribute to SardarVallabhbhai Patel
“Walk for Unity” was organized to show Houston’s solidarity with the “Statue of Unity” movement in India which stands for strong and united India. The walk was a tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who unified India that was fragmented in over 550 princely states prior to its independence and made it into one country that is India today.

The walk was a great success on all counts. There were over 350 people along with office bearers of the leading community organizations including India Culture Center, Gujarati Samaj of Houston, Hindus of Greater Houston, AryaSamaj, Sewa International, Hindu SwayamsevakSangh, Naamdwar, PatanjaliYogPeeth ,VHP-A,ISCA and others who joined and walked for the unity while almost close to two thousand cheering people watched from sidelines.
