Steeped in history, the city’s oldest temple — Butchi Rama Lingeshwara temple — is located in the first lane of Official Colony. The centuries-old temple draws many devotees.

According to priest Shrikant Sharma, devotees offer about 250 gm jaggery to the ‘Ananda Ganesha’ idol at the temple for fulfilment of their wishes. Once their wishes are fulfilled, they return with a kg of jaggery as offering. The main days of worship at the temple are Mondays and Wednesdays. It is also believed that a temple existed in the same alignment and exactly opposite the Butchi Rama Lingeshwara temple, but on the sea bed.
