Ravana Dahana in a grand way

Bellary, October 15, 2013: ‘Vijayadashami’, the 10th day of Dassara festivities, was celebrated with religious fervour and traditional gaiety in Bellary and other parts of the district.

As per the ‘Panchanga’ (Hindu calendar), ‘Ayudha puja’ and ‘Vijayadashimi’ were celebrated by a section of people on Sunday, while the rest celebrated Vijayadashimi on Monday.

People of all ages exchanged ‘banni’ and greeted each other. People from Gujarati and Jain communities participated actively in ‘Dandia’ and ‘garbha’ dances, organised at various places here.

50-ft idol

On Sunday, ‘Ravana dahana’ was organised on the Venkateshwara temple premises in Rameshwari Nagar here, symbolising victory over evil.

A large number of people witnessed the event, in which Rama shot an arrow to the nearly 50-ft idol of ‘Ravana’, which was followed by the bursting of crackers.
