Thousands gathered for Ravan Vadha

Warangal, October 14, 2013: Thousands of people gathered at the Rangaleela maidan on the outskirts of the town to witness ‘Ravanasura vadha’, organised by the Warangal Municipal Corporation (WMC), here on Monday.

As part of the Durga Navaratri celebrations, the corporation had put up a huge paper-made idol of demon king Ravana packed with fire crackers.

It was lit by the public representatives heralding a prolonged bursting of crackers that lit up the dark blue sky, amidst cheering by children and elders alike.

Roads deserted

The roads in the town wore a deserted look while those leading to Hunter Road, leading to the Rangaleela Maidan, were packed. The police had tough time regulating traffic.

The whole town converged at the ground to witness the mega event and celebrate the festival.

Since dawn, all the temples, particularly the historic Bhadrakali temple and those in the colonies, were crowded with people from all walks of life turning up to pray.

People decorated their old and new vehicles as part of ‘ayudha puja’.

‘Teppotsavam’ held

A special programme ‘Teppotsavam’ was held at the Bhadrakali temple on its sprawling tank waters which was attended by scores of people.

BC Welfare minister B. Saraiah attended a series of functions and graced the occasion at Thousand Pillar temple and at all other venues.
