Dharwad, October 13, 2013: A huge effigy of Ravana was erected on the Hurkadli Ajja Law College grounds by the Nandagokul Seva Samsthe and the Vijayadashami Ravana Dahana Utsav Samiti. The 45-foot effigy has attracted people from throughout the city, being an integral part of Navaratri’s Ravana Dahana celebrations. Ravana Dahana or the burning of the effigy symbolises the victory of good over evil and attracts large audiences every year. This year Ravana Dahana will be held on Sunday. Organisers said several cultural programmes will be held as part of this programme on the college grounds, including a comedy show and some musical performances. According to the organisers, measures have been taken to ensure safety during the programmes. Sufficient lighting arrangements have been made, and night-vision cameras have been installed at strategic locations. Separate seating arrangements will be made for women, they added.
