Shimoga is geared up for Dasara final
Shimoga, October 14, 2013: Arrangements are in swing for Banni Puja scheduled on Monday at National Education Society (NES) ground. The puja marks the culmination of the Shimoga Dasara, which started on October 5.
Shimoga MLA K.B. Prasanna Kumar on Saturday visited NES ground to review the ongoing preparations for the event. The puja will be preceded by another important ritual — the taking out of idols of the goddesses through the main streets of the city in a procession. Folk artistes from different parts of the State will participate in the procession. The Dasara is being held under the aegis of the Department of Kannada and Culture and Shimoga City Municipal Council.
The district administration had decided to shift the venue of the valedictory of Dasara festival from Nehru Stadium to NES ground.
Speaking to The Hindu over telephone, Commissioner of Shimoga CMC Mookappa Karabheemannavar said that, seating arrangement would be made for 5,000 people and giant. LED screens would be put up at the venue.
Parking
People visiting the venue on vehicles have been asked to park their vehicles on the premises of the hostels of Vokkaliga, Banajar and Kuruba associations at Balaraj Urs Road, the campus of DVS Education Institution and Government Pre University College ground.
Three elephants from Sakrebailu camp — Sagar, Gange and Indira — will participate in the procession. Sagar will carry the portrait of Chamundeshwari.
