Bangalore is Ready for Ayudha Puja
Bangalore, October 12, 2013: Markets across the city have been receiving ash gourd and lime in large quantity ahead of the Ayudha Puja, which is being celebrated on Sunday.
Ayudha Puja (the day of worshipping weapons/vehicles/instruments) is celebrated on the last day of the nine-day Navaratri, and it symbolises the triumph of good over evil.
But in most government offices and corporate offices, Ayudha Puja was performed on Friday since they are closed on second Saturday and Sunday. Some people celebrate it even on Vijayadashami.
According to a Hopcoms official, the price of ash gourd has come down in the last week from Rs. 18 a kg to Rs. 12 a kg. A kg of lime was sold at Rs. 94. “The cost of ash gourd and lime is almost as that of last year. Since the festival is celebrated on different days, the cost doesn’t shoot up much. Supply to the city is also good, which also prevents hike in price,” the official said.
