Low intensity pipe bomb planted at a Hindu Munnani functionary house
Tirunelveli, October 10, 2013: The Pettai police are on the lookout for the persons who planted a low intensity pipe bomb in the house of a Hindu Munnani functionary at Kodeeswaran Nagar here on Tuesday night.
Police said M.P. Vinoth (31) of Kodeeswaran Nagar, who is the Pettai area secretary of Hindu Munnani, found the 15 cm-long pipe bomb with fuse in the back yard of his house. Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad personnel were pressed into service, who defused the improvised explosive device.
Police suspect that the planting of pipe bomb was an attempt to threaten Mr. Vinoth, who had earned the enmity of a few Muslim groups over management of Nawabh Mosque commercial complex at Pettai.
The police, who have registered a case have picked up two persons for interrogation, a senior officer said.
