Madikeri, October 11, 2013: Buoyed by last year’s success, ‘Makkala Dasara’ is being organised by the Dasara Samiti in Madikeri again this year, with a variety of programmes for children. The programme will be inaugurated at the Gandhi Maidan in the city at 10 a.m. today by president of the Kodagu Zilla Panchayat B. Shivappa.

Among the compeitions for Makkala Dasara would be ‘Makkala Mantapa’, wherein children will prepare various forms of decorated mantaps, followed by ‘Makkala Sante’ (fair). Students would sell various items in the fair to get a first-hand experience of commerce while selling the products such as vegetables.

High school students would involve themselves in a quiz competition at the St. Michael’s School auditorium. Those participating in the fancy dress competitions would vie with each other on the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan premises.

Students would also take part in painting competitions on the topic ‘Na Kanda Kodagu’ – The Kodagu I saw – at the ‘Chetana Chilume’ auditorium of Bal Bhavan. This competition has received a large number of entries from students across the district.

Special children’s cultural programmes scheduled to be held at the Gandhi Maidan would begin at the ‘Kala Sambhrama’ at 6.30 p.m.

Artist Indushree, of the ‘Dinku’ fame, would present a comedy puppet show with her ‘talking doll’ at the venue, which is expected to draw good crowd, said president of the Madikeri Dasara Cultural Committee H.T. Anil.

The other major attraction would be the performance by Apoorva and Anjana Mali sisters from Magic World, Mangalore. The sisters have the distinction of being the youngest magician sisters in the country.

Master Abhyuday and Abhiram brothers, also from Mangalore, would enthral the audience later through ‘Yaksha Nritya’ dance. A host of cultural programmes including dances and songs by the children were lined up, Mr. Anil stated.
