Pilgrim police launched

Tirupati, October 8, 2013: The Tirupati Urban Police have created a special wing ‘Pilgrim Police’ that would cater to the needs of devotees thronging the temple city.

Inaugurated by Tirupati Urban Superintendent of Police S.V. Rajasekhar Babu on Monday, the special wing aims to provide information and facilitate the stay of devotees during the annual Brahmotsavams.

Speaking to mediapersons Mr. Babu said that 13 ‘May I Help You’ kiosks would be established both in Tirupati and Tirumala. “We have identified multilingual personnel from various areas and deputed them in thirteen kiosks in Tirupati (4) and Tirumala (9). In every kiosk, personnel will be able to converse with people in eight different languages,” he added.

The personnel will also distribute pamphlets highlighting certain etiquettes to be followed by the pilgrims during their stay in Tirumala along with details of Sevas at the temple. A pamphlet titled ‘Govinda namalu’, containing the Lord’s 108 names is also being distributed.

“The initiative originally planned to be launched on October 4 due to the ongoing agitation, however happened today. We hope to fare well during ‘Garuda Seva’ as the programme draws more devotees,” he added.
