Buddhist scriptures found
Karimnagar, September 30, 2013: The History Research Society has urged the Archaeological Department to declare Koti Lingala, Dhulikatta, Mukkaraopeta and Pedda Bomkur circuit villages as ‘protected area’ to undertake research and excavation of ancient Buddhist structures and scriptures.
While talking about the recent excavation of a scripture of Buddhists belonging to 3rd century BC at Mukkaraopeta village of Velgatoor mandal, HRS convenor C. Srinivasa Raju said in a press note here on Sunday that the ancient scripture of Buddhists reads “Naga Gopi Nikaya” and states that the school existed in the region 2,300 years ago. Similarly, the local archaeology department had also recovered a scripture of ancient Satavahana dynasty which propagated Buddhism during the period in the village.
Mr. Srinivasa Raju also said that there was urgent need to conduct research on the ancient history of Karimnagar district and its rulers including Satavahanas and propagation of Buddhism in the district.
