Kollam, September 27, 2013: Mata Amritanandamayi is a spiritual leader who has stood for world peace, says Chief Minister Oomen Chandy.

Her activities spanned the fields of education, health, and environmental protection with the aim of the overall and sustainable development of mankind, he said at a function organised here on Thursday evening on the occasion of Amritavarsham60, the 60th birthday celebrations of the spiritual leader.

The Mata Amritanandamayi Math led by her had already established quality educational and health institutions in the country.

Her leadership and guidance was being seen with great expectations by the people across the globe, Mr. Chandy said.

The Chief Minister also said the Mata’s teachings and principles were not only establishing a new path in the service of humanity but also creating a paradigm shift in social service and spirituality.

“Amma has transcended the local borders and emerged as one of top spiritual leaders of the world. Millions of people across the globe are looking at her for care, love and solace,” Mr Chandy said.

On the occasion, Mr. Chandy also distributed the Idukki relief fund initiated by the Mata Amritanandamayi Math for the families of those victims who were killed in a landslide.

An amount of Rs.one lakh each was handed over to the dependents of 12 families in this connection.
