Lucknow, September 25, 2013: A Special Investigating Cell (SIC) has been constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government to conduct investigation in cases related to the communal violence at Muzaffarnagar and Shamli. The rioting and arson, which erupted on September 7, claimed about 50 lives and rendered around 50,000 homeless.

A Home Department spokesman said on Tuesday that the SIC will investigate 80 first information reports lodged in connection with the communal violence.
