VHP Yatra
Allahabad, September 24, 2013: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad kicked off its Panch Kosi Yatra from Ayodhya on Monday, even as the administration imposed prohibitory orders in and around Faizabad district.
Faizabad Deputy Inspector General of Police B.D. Paulson told The Hindu that there were no preventive arrests made.
The restrictive Section 144 has been enforced in and around the temple town. Security forces have been kept on high-alert in the wake of intelligence reports that the yatra could disrupt communal harmony.
“We are making sure no one takes the law into their own hands. This is an annual ritual where devotees come to Ayodhya to participate. So far we haven’t booked anyone for violation of Section 144,” Mr. Paulson said.
