Bangalore, September 24, 2013: A row over one reveller stepping on another’s foot while dancing during the Ganesh procession proved fatal for two youth, who were brutally attacked and stabbed to death by an armed gang in Janakiram Layout of Banaswadi on Sunday night.
The duo, Karthik and Keshav, both construction labourers aged around 18 and 19 years, were rushed to Bowring hospital, with multiple knife wounds and were declared brought dead.
Police said the victims, who are residents of Janakiram Layout, joined the procession for immersion of the Ganesha idol, which was passing their area.
Fight turns ugly
While dancing, Karthik reportedly stepped on the feet of another reveller, which led to heated arguments between him and another group. The fight took ugly turn when Keshav tried to intervene following which the group stabbed the duo repeatedly before fleeing the scene.
The Banaswadi police rushed to the spot and detained four of nine alleged assailants. Efforts are on to nab the others. The police suspect old rivalry could be the motive behind the murder.
