Coimbatore, September 23, 2013: Kuniamuthur Police have arrested Hindu Munnani worker Sakthivel, 31, on charges of preventing a police officer from discharging his duty and trying to disturb law and order. The police said that Sakthivel took out a procession without permission on the eve of Ganesh Chathurthi and threatened policeman Lenin.

Based on a complaint from Lenin, the police registered a case and arrested Sakthivel.

Protest

Around 100 members of Hindu Munnani staged a protest outside a building in Vadamadurai where a prayer meeting was in progress on Sunday.

They raised slogans against the conduct of the meeting.

Following assurances from the Thudiyalur Police that the prayer meeting would be held there only after the District Collector’s permission, they left the place.

Arrested

Coimbatore Rural Police have arrested Arunkumar of Masakalipalayam on charges of murdering his friend Haridharan, an engineer.

The police said that investigations revealed that Arunkumar had murdered his friend and had tried to mislead them by claiming that a gang had tried to attack them on Friday when they were home after collecting dues from their business contacts.
