Vijayawada, September 20, 2013: A fire broke out at Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam here in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. An AC machine, TV, and false ceiling were reduced to ashes in the fire.

The almirah and other furniture were not damaged.

There were rumours in the day that valuable files were also burnt in the fire. The temple officials, however, denied the rumours and asserted that files were locked in the almirah.

The temple officials said that a short circuit caused fire at Executive Engineer (EE) Koteswara Rao’s chamber. A thick smoke billowed out from the EE’s room located near Bhavani deeksha Mantapam atop Indrakeeladri at around 2 a.m. sending the security staff into tizzy. They immediately alerted the fire personnel, and the fire was brought under control.
