Natyanjali by young children for Onam Celebrations
Thrissur, September 19, 2013: ‘Natyanjali’’, a classical dance performance by 60 children, enthralled the audience during Onam celebrations at Thekkinkadu maidan here on Wednesday.
The students of Devamatha CMI Public School in the city performed Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam at the programme organised by the District Tourism Promotion Council.
The children, students of Kalamandalam Sobhana Sajeev and Kalamandalam Usna Banu, staged ‘Bhoomi Vandanam’, ‘Cholkettu’, ‘Padam’ ‘Úmmayude Dhukham’ and ‘Jathiswaram’ in Mohiyattam and ‘Pushpanjali’, ‘Jathiswaram’, and ‘Padam’ in Bharatanatyam. Kalamanalam Sathybhama blessed the ‘chilanka’ for the performance.
Holistic development
The classical dance training was part of the extra-curricular activities of the school for the overall development of children, said Fr. Shaju Edamana, the Principal.
Initiation
In 2011, the school conducted arangettam of 51 students, he said.
M.P. Vincent MLA inaugurated the programme. Devamatha Provincial Fr. Paul Achandy, Education Councillor Jolly Andrews Maliyekkal, Chethana Music Academy Director Fr. Paul Poovathinkal and others participated.
