Bye Bye Ganesa in Karimnagar
Karimnagar, September 19, 2013: Devotees bid adieu to Lord Ganesha by carrying his idols in colourful processions with gaiety and religious fervour and immersing them in water bodies in various parts of the district on Wednesday.
Dancing to the drum beats, the youth enthusiastically participated the event as slogans of “Ganapathi Bappa Moriya – Agala baras thu jaldhi aa” rent the air. Womenfolk offered ‘harathi’ to the Ganesh idols during the procession and some of them also participated in ‘kolatam’ during the processions.
This year, eco-friendly clay idols outnumbered those made of plaster of Paris.
The idols were immersed at the Manakondur village tank, Kothapalli tank and Chintakunta SRSP canal on the outskirts of the town.
Authorities made all arrangements at the immersion spot such as electrification, barricading and deployment of huge cranes. The police also made unprecedented security arrangements by deploying additional forces at all vulnerable points along the procession routes. The police also video-graphed the procession and kept a close surveillance.
