Seers opposes Pallakki Seve
Gulbarga, September 17, 2013: The Panchamshali Math seer Siddalingha Mahaswami and the seer of Sulpul Math Mahanta Shivacharya have taken exception to what they described as the inhuman practice of carrying the heads of various maths in palanquins by people during the Darbar, that forms part of the Dasara celebrations at Jewargi in Gulbarga district. The two seers told presspersons here on Sunday that if the organisers did not drop the ‘pallakki seve’, then they would launch a padayayatra, along with their followers, from Shanmukha Shivayogi Math in Jewargi to the venue of the Dasara Durbar and stage a protest.
They appealed to the elected representatives of the region and others not to participate in the Dasara Durbar and uphold the principles of 12th Century Social Reformer Basaveshwar who sacrificed his life for the sake of protecting the human rights and fighting the caste system and inqualities in the society.
