Mahakumbhabhishekam of Egowriyamman Temple
Thanjavur, September 17, 2013: The Mahakumbabishekam of Egowriyamman Temple at Vallam was performed on Monday. Hundreds of people witnessed the holy event. Sacred water was poured on the Kalasams upon the Rajagopuram and vimanas of the temple at 10.10 a.m.
According to the legends, the goddess Egowriyamman slained Thanjan, an asura and saved people from his atrocities. The temple was renovated at a cost of Rs 50 lakhs with contributions from both Government and public. MLAs M. Rangasamy and R. Duraikannu, Singh Jagadeesan, Chairman, Vallam Town Panchayat, Govindaraj, Executive Officer of the temple participated in the Kumbabishekam.
K. Baskaran, Collector, participated in the yagasala puja on Sunday. Kumbabishekam of Pazhaniyandavar temple and Muthkan Marimman Temple was also held on Monday at Vallam. .The two temples were renovated at a cost of Rs. 25 lakhs.
