Theft from temple
Coimbatore, September 15, 2013: A total of Rs. 3.50 lakh in cash and 20 sovereigns of gold jewellery were stolen from a temple at Rathinapuri near here.
According to police sources, Parthiban, the priest of Karumariamman Temple at Subbathal layout, had locked the temple on Friday around 10pm. When he returned on the early hours of Saturday, he found the main entrance door locks broken.
Further, the doors of presiding deity’s sanctum sanctorum and temple administrative office were also broken. Upon searching the place, the priest found that around 20 sovereigns of gold jewellery belonging to the presiding deity to be missing along with Rs. 3.50 lakh in cash.
The temple officials immediately alerted the police. A team led by Assistant Commissioner Manohar and personnel from the Rathinapuri police visited the temple.Woman robbed
The city police are on the lookout for two persons who robbed five sovereigns gold jewellery from a woman.
According to the police, the woman was walking with her 19-year-old son on Sirumugai to Annur Road on Friday when two youth approached them on a motorcycle. They pretended to ask directions and suddenly snatched the jewellery.
