Ganesh Nimmajjanam at Chittoor
Chittoor, September 15, 2013: The five-day long Vinayaka Chaviti festival concluded at Chittoor town on Saturday with over 100 jumbo Ganesh idols immersed in Kattamanchi tank on the outskirts.
Despite the Samaikhyandra agitation, the five-day festival was celebrated in the town with devotional fervour. Some business groups sponsored cultural events and bhajans at the pandals, besides distributing prasadams and prizes to winners in various competitions.
The immersion process commenced at noon, with the local Congress MLA, C.K. Jayachandra Reddy, performing puja to the Ganesh idol at Premala junction. Later, he went round the pandals and initiated the procession of idols, which commenced around 1.30 pm. An impressive procession with giant idols remained cynosure of the evening as it passed through MSR Circle, Gandhi Circle, before reaching the Kattamanchi tank for immersion.
