60 ft tall Ganesh Idol
Hyderabad, September 15, 2013: Immersion of a gigantic Ganesh idol is not an easy task as issues like transportation and security have to be taken into account before ensuring everything goes off smoothly . But organisers of the 60-foot-tall ‘Dashavatara’ Ganesh idol at Kavadiguda in Lower Tank Bund have come up with a novel method and more importantly, an eco-friendly way of ‘immersing’ the idol.
They are adopting a unique method of immersing the idol at the pandal itself with fire tenders spraying water on the idol instead of taking it to Hussainsagar Lake.
With the assistance of Fire Services Department, the organisers will be conducting the immersion rituals by melting the idol with water sprayed through fire tenders,” P. Murali, president of Young Men Youth Association, said.
“We will first construct a five-foot-high wall around the pandal and perform rituals in the presence of priests on September 18. Using fire tenders, we will spray water from the top till it collapses completely,” he explained.
Fifty litres of water was specially brought from River Ganga to lace it with the water in fire tenders. Once the ‘immersion’ is completed, the organisers will distribute the clay to residents to place them near Tulasi plants in their houses.
“We will collect the same clay in five bags to immerse in the Krishna and other holy rivers,” Mr. Murali said.
He said the association was taking up this unique way of ‘immersion’ after consulting priests. Artisans from West Bengal were roped in to make the idol using 80 bags of clay brought from River Ganga.
