Mobile units for Vinayaka Idol immersion

Hubli, September 13, 2013: The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) has introduced mobile immersion units for the immersion of the Ganesh idols in the twin cities, in order to prevent pollution of water bodies.

After the end of festivities, the idols are immersed in various water bodies which get polluted due to the chemical colours used while making the idols. KSPCB’s move is aimed at providing ‘immersion points’ to people near their residence. It has also appealed to the residents, to make use of eco-friendly idols for the festivities.

The mobile immersion units will be visiting Malamaddi, Hosa Yallapur, Saptapur, Jayanagar and Srinagar localities in Dharwad on Friday between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.

and Navanagar and Vidyanagar loclities on Friday between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.

The board’s move comes in the wake of several environmental organisations launching campaigns to create awareness about pollution of water bodies during the festival and also on promotion of use of colourless idols.

Meanwhile, the volunteers of National Service Scheme (NSS) of JG College of Commerce will be visiting localities around Akshay Park on Gokul Road on Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
