Erode, September 13, 2013: Immersion of 128 statues of Lord Ganesha taken out in a procession from the city to the Cauvery near Pallipalayam on Thursday constituted the last leg of Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations in the district. Hindu Munnani founder and State organiser initiated the procession from the city.

Sporting saffron colour bandanas and gyrating to the beat of drums, hundreds of Hindu Munnani volunteers accompanied the idols of various sizes and hues taken on vehicles, all along the over 5-km route.

Elsewhere in the district, a procession of 60 idols was taken out at Puliampatti.

A similar procession was taken out at Sathyamangalam on Wednesday.

The processions were peaceful, police sources said.
