Vinayaka Idols Peaceful Rally
Tiruvannamalai, September 12, 2013: Vinayaka idol immersion rallies passed of peacefully in Vellore and Tiruvannamalai on Wednesday.
In Vellore, the rally began near the Collectorate junction. It proceeded through Kagithapattarai, Main Bazar, Filterbed Road, Fort Circle, Mullipalayam and Konavattam before ending in Sathupperi, an irrigation tank.
As the tank had gone dry, Revenue Department personnel dug a huge pit and pumped water into it from three municipal borewells . The rain also helped to increase the water level and about 200 idols were immersed. Tahsildar R. Vincent Rajasekaran and Deputy Superintendent of Police (Vellore town) S.Dhakshinamurthy were present.
In Tiruvannamalai, the rally began near the Gandhi statue and proceeded through vital roads before reaching Thamarai Kulam, a huge tank on Thandarampattu road. About 100 idols were taken in procession and immersed in the tank. In Chengam, the idols were immersed in a check-dam built across Cheyyar, Mullukuttai eri, Chengam eri and Kuppanatham dam.
