Dharmapuri, September 12, 2013: Hundreds of Vinayaka idols were taken out in a procession before they were immersed in various water bodies notified by the district administrations in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri on Wednesday.

People from various parts of the districts brought the idols in autorickshaws, mini vans, tempos and lorries for immersion. According to police sources in Krishnagiri, as many as 526 idols were immersed across the district on Wednesday.

Majority of the idols were brought to KRP Dam for immersion from Royakottai, Kaveripattinam and Krishnagiri and even from far away places. No untoward incident was reported in any part of the district. Heavy police picketing was posted at KRP Dam, Nagondapalli Dam and Kelevarapalli Dam near Hosur, Madhakondapalli Eri and other water bodies in Denkanikottai, Bargur and Uthangarai.

In Dharmapuri district, permission was given to install 715 Vinayaka idols in all the three sub-divisions. Of these, over 400 idols were immersed in the water bodies on Wednesday, the police sources said.

The district administration has given permission for idol immersion at the following places: Krishnagiri district - Krishnagiri – KRP dam; Denkanikottai – Petrayanswami Temple tank; Madagondapalli – Gowramma tank; Thali – Thali tank; Panchapalli dam; South Pennar River, and Hosur – Pachai tank.

Dharmapuri district - Chinnar Dam; Hogenakkal; Kolasanahalli Lake; Kesarguli Dam; Thumbalaalli Dam, Thoppaiyar Dam; Nagavathy Dam; Nagamarai Eriyur; River South Pennar; Eechambadi Dam; Vaniyar Dam and River Irumathur River.

Immersions would take place on September 23 also, the deadline fixed by the district administration.
