Erode, September 10, 2013: Idols of Lord Ganesha varying from two to 16 feet were kept in the open for worship throughout the city and suburbs on Monday as part of Chathurthi celebrations.
At several places, worship was carried out to the accompaniment of devotional songs.
Children and elders alike thronged the idol points along busy thoroughfares and at main junctions.
They stood in queues waiting for their turn to offer prayers.

Largest
The largest statue of the deity to a height of 16 feet was kept for worship at the Sampath Nagar Four Roads Junction.
Members of Hindu Munnani played an active role in installing the statues and making makeshift arrangements for worship.
According to a senior Hindu Munnani functionary, a total of 1,008 statues of the deity were worshipped throughout the town and suburbs.
At B.P. Agraharam, categorised as one of the sensitive areas, the presence of police could be felt.
Elsewhere in the district, processions were taken out in Bungalow Pudur area and in Gopichettipalayam limits.
Incident-free
The celebrations were incident-free police sources said.
