3 persons arrested in connection with temple theft cases
Belgaum, September 9, 2013: The district police on Friday arrested three persons in connection with the theft of valuables from different temples and collected valuables worth more than Rs. 6 lakh from them.
The police said here on Sunday, Santosh Gangaram Vaddar (30), Santhosh Arjun Khanpet (19), both from Dhupdal, and Sagar Shankar Sannaki (21) of Kaujalgi were produced before court on Saturday. They have been remanded to judicial custody.
Police said the accused were wanted in at least four theft cases under the police station limits of Kulgod and Ghataprabha police stations of Gokak taluk.
Gold ornaments
The accused had stolen gold and silver articles from temples at Mannapur, Dhavaleshwar, Kaujalgi under Kulgod police station limits and Kalloli under Ghataprabha police station limits.
The police seized 147.5 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs. 4.425 lakh and 4.1 kg of silver articles worth Rs. 2.005 lakh. The total value of the seized articles came to Rs. 6.43 lakh. Mudalgi CPI S.M. Olekar, Kulgod PSI Srishail K. Byakod and their staff had conducted investigations into the recent thefts from temples.
