Ganesh festival
Kollam, September 8, 2013: The five-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival in the district organised by the Sree Ganeshotsav Trust will begin on Sunday.
Programme convener Sudhakaran Pallath said more than 90 Ganesha statues were being installed in various parts of the district. The statues, which were brought to Lakshminada, would be taken to the places where they would be installed in pandals.
The immersion ritual would be held on the Kollam beach on September 12 evening. All the installed statues would be brought to Asramam Maidan from where these would be taken in grand processions to the immersion site.
Mr. Pallath said that in view of the Onam festival season, care would be taken to avoid traffic congestions while taking out the processions.
A public meeting organised at the immersion site would be inaugurated by former minister and Kerala State Welfare Corporation for Forward Communities chairman R. Balakrishna Pillai.
