Soorya Festival
Tiruchi, September 6, 2013: It was raining outside but none of the audience could peep their head out to have a glimpse of the intensity of showers.
For, they were caught in such rapt attention through a dance performance on ‘Jagado Dharana....’
Music lovers and Carnatic musicians in Tiruchi city quenched their thirst for professional performance, courtesy a five-day festival currently in progress at the National College.
The 'Soorya Festival', though a maiden celebration in the city, has gone down well with the music lovers, going by the overcrowding at the auditorium of the college. “This is the first time that the festival is being organised in Tiruchi and the response to it is quite encouraging and overwhelming', says K. Prakash, and R. M. Natarajan, Tiruchi Chapter Convenors of the Soorya Festival.
The programme, jointly organised by the Rotary Club of Cauvery and Innerwheel Club of Tiruchi presents a bouquet of performance and it has been so mixed that both senior artistes and vidwans and young professionals participating in it. The inaugural session commenced on Monday with Bharatanatyam dance recital by Ramya Vaidyanathan; followed by Neyveli Santhanagopalan's vocal concert; Hindustani vocal by Manjari; and Bharatanatyam dance recital by Sanjana and Deepti on Thursday.
“The valediction of the festival on Friday will witness a kathak recital by Rani Khanam” says Soorya Krishnamurthi, organiser of the Soorya festival.
