19 places identified for idol immersion
Dharmapuri, September 6, 2013: Nineteeen places have been notified for immersion of idols as part of the Vinayaka Chathurthi celebrations in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts, according to press releases issued by District Collectors T.P. Rajesh (Krishnagiri) and K. Vivekanandan (Dharmapuri) here recently.
The Collectors appealed to the public not to immerse Vinayaka idols made of plaster of paris with chemical paints, which pollute the water bodies.
Only idols made of clay should be immersed. Seven places identified for immersion of idols in Krishnagiri district were Krishnagiri – KRP dam down; Denkanikottai – Petrayanswami Temple tank; Madagondapalli – Gowramma tank; Thali – Thali tank; Panchapalli dam; South Pennar River, and Hosur – Pachai tank. The 12 water bodies identified in Dharmapuri district were Chinnar Dam; Hogenakkal; Kolasanahalli Lake; Kesarguli Dam; Thumbalaalli Dam, Thoppaiyar Dam; Nagavathy Dam; Nagamarai Eriyur; River South Pennar; Eechambadi Dam; Vaniyar Dam and River Irumathur River.
