Single window system for Ganesh Mandals
Davangere, September 5, 2013: Deputy Commissioner Anjan Kumar said a single-window system would be established on the Davangere City Corporation office premises from Thursday, to help the organisers of Ganesha processions get three mandatory licences in one place.
The organisers could get the no objection certificate from the police department, temporary power connection from Bescom, and licence from the city corporation to install Ganesha idol. Speaking at a peace committee meeting held here on Wednesday, Mr. Kumar said a pit would be dug close to the Bathi tank, which would be filled with enough water for people to immerse the idols. He asked people not to immerse Ganesha idols in open wells, lakes or in any other tanks and pollute drinking water sources.
Lighting arrangements would be made near the Bathi tank to facilitate people to immerse the idols, he said and asked the organisers to get prior permission from the police for their procession route. He said CCTVs would be installed at strategic points in the city to keep a track on anti-social elements.
The Deputy Commissioner asked people to celebrate the festival peacefully. Superintendent of Police Prakash said collecting money forcibly from people for Ganesha celebration a non-bailable offence. He told the organisers not to collect donations forcibly.
Mr. Prakash said police would give a route to take the Ganesha processions. The police would formulate a route keeping in mind the width of the road and various other factors to ensure that peace was not disturbed, he said and asked the organisers to abide by the route given by the department.
He said speakers should not be used before 6 a.m. and after 10 p.m. He said the police department had identified 60 places where CCTV cameras could be installed during the festival.
Additional Superintendent of Police Ravinarayan said the organisers could play devotional or light music, and not songs that may hurt the sentiments of others.
