Ongole, September 4, 2013: Religious fervour marked the Sakambari Utsavam held here on the last Tuesday of the auspicious ‘Sravanamasam’. A large number of women, including newly-wed women, made a beeline to the temples of mother goddess to perform ‘Mangala Gowrivratam’ on the occasion. Mahalakshmi idol was tastefully decorated with vegetables at the Santhapeta Veeranjaneyaswamy temple on the occasion.

Explaining the significance of the festival, Vedic priest Matampalli Srirama Sarma before initiating women into performing ‘Mangala Gowrivratam;, said Draupadi was advised by Lord Krishna to observe Gowrivratam for a happy married life.
