Ganesh Darshan – An exhibhition cum sale

Thanjavur, September 4, 2013: Ganesh Darshan, an exhibition-cum-sale of Ganesh idols in various forms organised by Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd, in connection with Vinayaka Chathurthi festival opened at the Poompuhar showroom at Gandhiji Road here on Sunday.

N. Ravichandran, municipal commissioner, inaugurated the exhibition on Tuesday. Works of artisans from Thanjavur, Tiruchi, Mayiladuthurai, Swamy Malai, Mamallapuram, and Omalur in Tamil Nadu, and from Mumbai, Hyderabad, Rajasthan, and Jaipur are on display. An array of idols made of various materials, including panchaloha, bronze, black metal, white metal, stone, marble, clay, paper pulp, and “Veerukku" sandal are on display. The price of the exhibits ranges from Rs. 60 to Rs. 1,36,000, and the total worth of the exhibits is Rs. 20 lakh. The sales target is Rs. 5 lakh.

The exhibition will be open for public on all days from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. till September 14, said P. Balakrishnan, manager, Poompuhar.
