High court directions for authorities for Ganesh Idol immersion
Hyderabad, September 3, 2013: A Division Bench of the A.P. High Court comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyothi Sengupta and Justice K. C. Bhanu on Monday directed the authorities concerned that all possible steps be taken to ensure that the waters of Hussainsagar lake in the city were not polluted in the name of immersion of Ganesh idols and wanted the organisers of Ganesh mandaps to be involved in this exercise.
The court called for the report of the high-power committee regarding steps to be taken to deal with the vexed problem of pollution of Hussainsagar. It further directed the government to call for a meeting of various Ganesh Samithis to discuss the issue.
Chief Justice Kalyan Jyothi Sengupta shared his experience on the steps taken during Durga idol immersion in West Bengal. The Bench took on record the opinions of amicus curiae D. Prakash Reddy and G Vidya Sagar.
The case will come up for hearing on Friday and the government was told to submit its report in this regard.
