Ganesh Idols expo at Tiruchi
Tiruchi, September 3, 2013: Lord Ganesh idols of various forms and size, worth over Rs. 60 lakh are on display at the Ganesh darshan exhibition organised by the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited in connection with the Vinayaka Chathurthi celebrations at its Poompuhar showroom in the city.
A. Jaya, Mayor, declared the exhibition open, which will be on till September 14.
A variety of Vinayaka idols, including those made of panchaloha, bronze, brass, sandalwood, country wood, rosewood, marble, granite, and soap stone have been displayed along with Thanjavur paintings, velvet, silk, black metal and white metal paintings at the exhibition.
Sandalwood idols
Vinayaka idols made of sandalwood have been procured from the Poompuhar’s manufacturing unit at Kallakurichi, while the bronze from its unit at Swamimalai, and the brass idols from Madurai. A Panchaloha idol of Vinayaka weighing 80 kg of Rs. 2 lakh worth is costliest, while the cheapest idol is priced at Rs. 160.
The Poompuhar showroom managed to achieve a target of Rs. 3 lakh during the last year’s Ganesh darshan exhibition, V. Ganesan, manager of the showroom said, and added that the corporation has fixed a sales target of Rs. 5 lakh this year.
