Call for peace during Vinayaka Chavithi
Shimoga, September 3, 2013: Superintendent of Police Koushalendra Kumar has urged people to cooperate with the Police Department to maintain peace and order during the Ganesha festival in the district.
Permission must be sought from the Police Department and Pollution Control Board to install Ganesha idols at public places to observe the festival peacefully, he said.
The information on the place where the idol would be installed, the programmes at the venue, and the route through which the idol would be taken in procession for immersion should be provided to the police in advance for security arrangements, he said at the peace committee meeting held in the city on Monday.
He said the Police Department would set up helplines at all taluk headquarters during the festival. The public can register their grievances and suggestions with the helpline centre, he said.
Deputy Commissioner Vipul Bansal said that similar meetings of peace committees would be held at the taluk level too.
