Issue of faith

Tirupur, September 2, 2013: Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Pravin Togadia has said that the construction of Ram temple is an issue of faith and the VHP would not be politicising the matter at any point of time.

“Archaeological excavations in the area has proved that the temple was there beneath the ground and hence, the Central Government should hand over the land to the Hindus considering that the government had given an affidavit in the Supreme Court that such lands where temples’ existence be proved will be handed over to the Hindus,” he told reporters here on Sunday.

Mr. Togadia claimed that the VHP’s demand for a law for construction of Ram temple was getting enormous support. “We have contacted more than 400 MPs representing various political parties urging them to push forward the demand for the said law and 90 per cent of them responded positively to the idea in their personal capacities,” he said.

Project

Mr. Togadia, who is the International Working President of VHP, slammed the Centre for bringing back the idea of construction of Sethusamudram Ship Channel Project through the controversial alignment destroying Ram Sethu.

On the arrest of alleged Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal, Mr. Togadia was of the opinion that Bhatkal’s Indian passport should be cancelled.

He condemned the killings and attacks on the Hindu leaders in Tamil Nadu.

Reacting to a news article, the VHP leader said that any move to convert the country’s idle gold, including the ones with temple trusts, into bullion to reduce the current deficit would be opposed.

On Narendra Modi as Prime Ministerial candidate, he clarified that the VHP had not supported or opposed any political party or politicians till now. “We oppose only on issues”.

In the evening, Mr. Togadia attended a public meeting organised by the VHP in the city.
