Gurpurab celebrated

Visakhapatnam, September 2, 2013: Gurpurab was celebrated with devotion and reverence by the Sikh community here on Sunday. The living Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Granth Sahib was covered with Rumala Sahib (sacred cloth) and decorated at the Darbar of Gurudwara Sadh Sangat and devotees in large numbers made a visit to the shrine.

A group settled down to perform kirtans while visitors offered prayers. “The holy book of Sikh community, which contains 1,430 Angs, was initially installed at the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Later, the 10th Guru of our community Guru Gobind Singh bestowed the holy book as our permanent Guru, ending the lineage of human Gurus,” president of Gurudwara Sadh Sangat Seva Singh said.

The everyday ritual at Gurudwara includes performing kirtans and offering prayers from 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. For every special occasion and festival, the sacred book is decorated with specially designed Rumala Sahib and placed at the Darbar. For the community, Guru Granth Sanhib is considered to be the living God which will be worshipped during every auspicious event. Children, women and men visited the shrine and offered prayers on the occasion.
