Gold and Silver Coating for Chariot of Kateel Temple
Mangalore, August 27, 2013: A new teakwood chariot of the Kateel temple will get a gold and silver coating.
K. Ajith Hegde, Commissioner, Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) and Administrator, Kateel Temple, said 12 kg of gold and 200 kg of silver will be used to laminate the wooden chariot.
After the coating, the chariot — at 13.75 feet height — will be the tallest golden chariot in Karnataka, he said.
The “muhurtha” for the lamination work on the chariot was done on Sunday, he said. The lamination work will be done by Udupi-based jeweller and the quality of the work will be monitored by professors from National Institute of Technology-Karnataka, Surathkal.
The carvings of the chariot will also be laminated. The work is expected to be complete in six months.
