Bellary, August 27, 2013: Members of the district unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Monday staged a dharna outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here in protest against the clampdown by the Uttar Pradesh government on the leaders associated with the ‘Chourasi kos parikrama’. Condemning the arrest of ‘sadhus and sants’ and other VHP leaders, they termed the action anti-democratic and demanded immediate release of the arrested. They submitted a memorandum in this regard to the district administration. K.A. Ramalingappa, Basavaraj, Kundapur Nagaraj and other leaders led the agitation. Meanwhile, Davangere Staff Correspondent reports that the local unit of VHP staged a similar protest against the arrest of VHP leaders by the Uttar Pradesh government.
