Dharwad, August 24, 2013: The Swami Vivekananda rath yatra, organised as part of the 150th birth anniversary of the spiritual leader, was given a grand welcome upon its arrival here on Friday.

Seers, organising committee members and elected representatives received the rath yatra. Later, the rath carrying Vivekananda’s portrait was taken in a procession on the major streets of the city.

Several schoolchildren joined the procession and shouted slogans praising Swami Vivekananda. The procession and youth convention held on the RLS College grounds attracted a large audience. Addressing the gathering, Swami Tyagishwarananda of Ramakrishna Mission, Bangalore, asked parents to be cautious while bringing up their children.

Ramakrishna Vivekananda Ashram Dharwad president Swami Vijayananda Saraswati, Hubli-Dharward West MLA Aravind Bellad and Karnatak University registrar G.B. Nandan spoke on the occasion.
