15th Century Idols found while digging for repairs of a temple
Palani, August 24, 2013: Stone idols of various gods and goddesses belonging to the 15th century were unearthed at Sri Sholeeswarar Temple near Thiruavinangudi Temple and Malai Adivaram when a pit was dug by the temple authorities for the construction of a mandapam on Friday evening. Idols of Sri Chandigeshwarar, Lord Ganapathy, Sri Nandheeswarar, Sri Raahu, Sri Kethu and Goddess Amman, along with a ‘bali peetam’ and a stone image of mouse (the vehicle of Lord Ganapathy), were unearthed. The idols of Sri Chandigeshwarar, Lord Ganapathy and Goddess Amman were three feet tall, and the other idols were one and a half to two feet in height.
