Bhopal, August 23, 2013: Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti on Thursday came out in support of Asaram Bapu who has been accused of raping a girl in Jodhpur on Independence Day.

Ms. Bharti, first tweeted and then spoke in support of the godman. She said in her tweet in Hindi: “Saint Asaram Bapu is innocent. He is being punished for opposing Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. False cases have been lodged against him in Congress (ruled) States. Saints are with Bapu.” Later she tweeted in English: “This is my personal view that sant samaj (community of saints) of our country is being humiliated continuously by the UPA Government.”
